Took an old pair of unworn jeans and soaked them in bleach for what seemed like forever (more like 18 hours).So happy with the result, though I think they're a little more suited for summertime.

JIL SANDER MARKET BAG DIY // STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

I should've known people would have wanted instructions to go with a DIY post. I thought it was pretty straight-forward but anyways hopefully this helps you out. If you need anything or have any questions, don't be shy!

What you Need:- Pleather-Tissue Paper-Measuring tape-Scissors-Pins-Sewing Machine
Step 1: Find any kind of pleather (or leather if you're lucky) you like .
You'll need it to measure 26" high, and 23" wide (this can vary depending on how roomy you want the bag to be).

Step 2: I made a prototype first to get the proportions right but you can just use paper
or newspaper to trace the measurements out for yourself. So fold the pleather down so that the fold is at the top and the ends meet at the bottom.

Mesurements:
Handle Width= 4" (Double the size you want the handle to be in the end)
Handle Height= 8"
Distance between handles= 8"-9"

Step 3: Cut it out!
(This is where you could add a pocket if you wanted to. I wanted to keep it as clean as possible so didn't. The problem with if you were to add a pocket is that the seam would be visible from the right side. If this doesn't bother you, go ahead!)

Step 4: Sew down all 3 sides. I stitched them all twice for extra support!

Step 5: Now fold the sides in so that the handles meet/are equal. Use a magazine to keep them in place.

Step 6: Now pin the side flaps, flush with the bottom of the bag and sew!
This creates the "folded-in" look, like real grocery bags. Your flaps should measure approximately 4".

Step 7: Almost done! Now flip the bag over.

Step 8: Now fold in the handles in half towards each other. They should be equal and your entire bag should sit straight. Pin the top part of the handle.

Step 9: Cut up 2 strips of tissue paper and wrap it around the top part of the handle. This will help your sewing machine sew the pleather. I've always had the hardest time working with pleather because of the friction when sewing. Finally I realized how easy it is to get around this issue using tissue paper. The tissue acts as a protection for the pleather, and makes it glide under the machine, just like regular fabric would. Now, just sew a straight line down the width of the handles to keep them in place. Finally, rip the tissue off and you have yourself your very own Jil Sander inspired market bag!

My seat was really not conducive to picture taking so I just gave up and took it all in. (Gladly So). I'll save my review for when the actual pictures come out so that you can follow along but here are some of the pictures I managed to take. JIL SANDER // MARKET BAG DIY

I (like everyone else) was obsessed with Raf Simons' spring 2011 collection for JIL SANDER. I fell in love with this orange acetate market bag from the get go; such a simple idea. Unfortunately, they sold out on Net-a-Porter so quickly I couldn't get my hands on one. (so cheap too)

Then came the slew of knockoffs from other brands, and I couldn't justify buying any of them. None of them got the right "slouch" from the original. I figured I should just make myself one. I don't know why I hadn't thought to DIY this sooner, but anyways here it is. I used black pleather, because I couldn't get my hands on real leather. Definitely going to remake this.

I made a little video because the pictures just weren't doing it justice. That's a great mix of Destiny's Child's Emotions (lol) by E+E playing in the background in case you were wondering. DESTINE+E'S CHILD by E+E

I was going to post a step-by-step tutorial, but it was pretty straightforward. If anyone wants tips/the actual steps just let me know!I haven't had the time (do i ever) to take proper outfit pics, so here's a blurry shot from my phone of what I was wearing the other day (nothing special but you can see the bag in action). I went to a special presentation of By Thomas' third collection tonight interestingly located on the steps of Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste. In collaboration with Christian l'Enfant Roi (more on that later), both brands showed strong, clearly focused collections that Montreal should be proud to call their own. I got there a little late so all the models were already standing in formation in front of the church. Crowds were already forming to go inside to see Christian l'Enfant Roi, so I couldn't get shots of everything (bummer). I've spoken about my admiration for By Thomas already (here + here). Tonight solidified my belief in the brand as a whole.

I really enjoyed the wrap skirts/hems in this collection. The silk(?) was done so well, they just look so easy and effortless, which I know was no easy feat. One thing I wasn't a fan of was the print. It reminded me of a futuristic/abstract marble or something. I just thought it was a strange mix with the fluidity of the rest of the collection.

However, I did love the accessories. This is Thomas' first foray into handbags if i'm not mistaken; a great extension of her vision. I loved the raw feeling I was getting from the bags which gave a nice contrast to the femininity of the clothes. The green bag pictured was my favorite. It reminded of me Alexander Wang's Rococo but a lot less trendy and much more lust worthy in my opinion.

These two brands are really the most exciting thing happening in the Montreal fashion scene. Not only are the clothes well conceived and executed, but their choice of location also sets them apart. I thought it was great that they chose to show on their own, apart from the Montreal Fashion Week calendar, and somewhere other than the Marche Bonsecour runway. An unconventional location which hopefully will stimulate other brands here to start thinking more creatively about the way in which they showcase their clothes.

A few shots of Paris/Barcelona, it's my last night in Paris and I get back to Montreal tomorrow for my birthday and Osheaga. I can't wait, I seriously missed home so much this whole trip.

No outfit posts (except for that one day in Barcelona where I colorblocked), because of Paris' ridiculous 14 degree weather. I brought 20 pairs of shorts with me and only ended up wearing 2. Basically had to wear the only warm clothes I brought with me over and over again.

Damir Doma, my favorite collection this season.
Somehow managed to take the harsh S&M vibe away from harnesses and incorporated them into this softer more refined collection. I loved the muted tone-on-tone, the playful layering, the pajama influences.
perfect.

You'll notice GIVENCHY is missing, usually always a staple for me, but I just hated it this season. The proportions didn't work, the placement prints felt too familiar, no growth/expansion from previous seasons. Hopefully this was just a one time thing Riccardo.

I know this is my bajillionth "im back!" post, so i'm not making any promises this time around. I've just lost the lust for blogging, arguably it's been gone for a while but anyways summer's here now and so many things are going on! I just finished summer school, so my summer can finally begin; I'll be in Paris from the 16th-26th, then Chicago from August 3rd-22nd. I'm really excited for the rest of the summer so expect more updates on the personal front. In fashion news, how good was menswear? seriously so many good and different collections this season.

OBSESSED with BY THOMAS by Natasha Thomas. Her first collection is a good mix of reinvented basics in blush tones and stark black. In my opinion, the standout piece is her take on the classic trench; which features an oversized lapel & elbow slits. What more could you want? You can glean Thomas' passion for her work, through each piece of clothing. Every piece has so much thought put into it which takes shape through special details, whether it be a slit here, or peter pan collar there. Did I mention this is a Montreal based brand? Surprised? Me too...

Unfortunately, for now there are no stockists, but hopefully that'll change soon.
I really need that trench in my life...

Last weekend, I was invited to a fashion show called GRISffé here in Montreal to benefit GRIS Montreal. At first I wasn't going to go but I got a last minute email with the latest additions; By Thomas(more on her later), Dane Richards, and Christian l'enfant roi (There were more designers but these are the ones worth checking out). When speaking about the Montreal fashion scene, honestly, there aren't many brands i'm proud of, but these three are definitely on that list. These Montreal brands offer progressive, unique visions that have the potential to gain international appeal. I remember seeing By Thomas's runway show during Fashion Week here, and was truly enamored with the tailoring, fabric selection, and workmanship. Obviously, I couldn't pass up the chance to see more of her clothes up close. The show itself was actually one of the best i've been in Montreal; the clothes were well curated, though I thought the styling could of used some refinement but overall it was a great, upbeat show. Unfortunately, the lighting was weird and my camera was acting up, so I couldn't get any good shots... these'll have to do!

This Jumper was crazy; dip dyed, perfectly draped and moved so well.
I couldn't remember the designer but whoever it was reminded me a lot Jeremy Laing's work.

OBSESSED with this editorial by Marie Tailler featuring Rodarte's fall 2011 collection. The editorial manages to capture the story/look/feel that the girls wanted to tell so well with this collection. The casting, the styling, the post-editing is all so perfect. The one thing I wish they would have done is the hair from the runway as well; that bang was spot on. Just a minor detail, the editorial is still amazing regardless.

In a stroke of genuis, Harper's Bazaar put Kate Moss on their new cover wearing the same dress she wore in the hologram from the Fall 2006 show.

I remember watching the video when it first came out,; i was mesmerized, we had never even heard of holograms actually happening let alone for a fashion show. The choice to cast Kate is was obviously flawless. He was truly a visionary. I held off any comments about Mcqueen when he died, because i felt as though it had ignited a sudden following and false admiration for his work. People who had never even seen his work were acting all depressed. Sad but true, this happens all the time.

I'm in love with the cover, it's the perfect hommage.

I think my style of blogging was more about fashion news and collection reviews, and i was fine with that but now I want it to become something more personal/more like a visual diary. Back to how it all started? at the very very beginning my blog was just a place for me to keep track of all my sewing projects, but then i strayed. I don't know if it's necessarily a bad thing or not yet. This season has been so boring, except for these three; Proenza, Rodarte and Jeremy Laing.
There has been so much coverage about the Proenza and Rodarte shows so i wont bore you further, even though they were AMAZING. (Navajo prints at Proenza and the Hemlines at Rodarte were my favorite).

Jeremy Laing's Fall 2011 is one of my favorites because you can distinctively see the progression he's gone though these past few seasons and i love that you can see him starting to form signatures for his line as well; like the dresses with the hems that turns into cape-like contraptions. amazing.
I love Laing's slouchy take on that downtown New York cool that Wang's had cornered for a few seasons now. The most refreshing things are the silhouette's he's formed; fresh and exciting. The collection as a whole has serious teen-whitchey vibes, tavi would be proud. I'm also a sucker for any print featuring anything spacey, i mean, how good are those moon crevice prints?

So proud to see a Canadian do so well on the international scene!

Special Valentines Day sappy lovey dubey post, featuring my favorite wedding ever. This video never fails to bring up such weird emotions, if you know me, you'll know that weddings are a big deal for me. I mean, that's what I spend my summers doing, but this is just beyond. The whole thing was just perfect; the location (chateau in France), the DRESS, the personalized vows, the flowers, the small guest list, the intimacy, every little detail was just perfect and so well thought out and I love how unpretentious coco is, you can really tell James and Coco really love each other so much.

When i went to New York two weekends ago(miss it so much already!), I made a huge splurge at barneys that subsequently has me in a little debt right now... I bought the jacket in look 12 from Alexander Wang's spring 2010 collection. Arguably his best one and my personal favorite of his. I love love love the back part of this jacket the most, the long tail in the denim is so unexpected.

I cannot wait till it gets cooler out so that i can actually wear it.

LICHEN PREVIEW

I'm currently working on a little capsule collection for this fashion show on February 25th but more on that later. I've gotten really inspired by this special moss called LICHEN that is only found in some of the most extreme environments on Earth like the arctic tundra, hot deserts, rocky coasts and toxic slag heaps. I only have about 3 pieces done so far, so I really have to get going, but here's a little preview:

Just a basic tee, but super long and narrow, it hits about 3 inches past the waist, and has a moon hem. The texture of the fabric is just perfect, it completely encompasses my inspiration, because of it's sheerness, it looks as though lichen is actually growing on the person, something i find so beautiful.

This is the other 2 pieces that i've done, a cropped tee shirt that i LOVE because it looks like a crumpled paper bag or treebark? It was initially made big, but it was too stiff so i washed it and it came out like this, so much better in my opinion. The skirt i made tonight, I think it's adorable. Reminiscent of a petticoat? but in this amazing mint color.
Basically this is the color scheme; a transition from mint to beige to burnt orange.

Recently discovered new brand HAERFEST's overnight duffle. If you know me, you know I have a weak spot for duffles. I probably have 20. This one is special though; a classic shape but the addition of the cover turns this bag into a must have. It's something that i've never seen before. The look is so understated, and classic with the right amount of hardware. This is another bag that MUST make it into my collection.

A couple(17) pictures from my trip to New York this past weekend. It was super last minute and on a whim. Did a whole bunch of touristy things, but it was so much fun.

Being/Eating like real Americans, Taking pictures like azn tourists at Times Square, Reading The New York Times at a Starbucks 2 streets away from the actual New York Times building, 20 chicken nuggets for 5$, atop the Empire State Building, the site of the first Alexander Wang store, Grand Central Station, breaking my heart(broke my heart), Magnolia Bakery, BOOKMARC, TIME'S UP, strolling through Soho, Jumping in Central Park, Losing all my money at Barneys, Late night Milkshakes, Having no more money to eat, Sweet tea, Drinking illegally on Saturday night, Being forced to walk the Brooklyn Bridge, Freezing 24/7; These are only a few of the awesome memories I have of this weekend. Now back to school and reality

Seriously, how boring was prefall this year?
Normally it's an opportunity for designers to test out concepts and ideas for fall. It's also usually the collection (along with resort) that sells most, so designers usually churn out more sell-able (read: boring) collections (a.k.a. Alexander Wang). Jack and Lazaro, of course, never go boring. This is collection is sooooo sellable and yet interesting and has something to say. I love their use of such eclectic prints and the mix is so perfect. I love that they finally dove in and made such statement with the knits too. The prints little reminiscent of Dries van Noten, but totally done in their signature NY cool manner.

I love how crazy the prints are, but yet they look so sophisticated and stray away from the Tribal reference and more towards a South American vibe. Surprisingly thought, my two favorite looks are the completely solid dresses. TeenWitch-ey vibes, basic, easy, and the draping is so flattering and effortless.

SAMIA told me I should just rename my blog to
something along the lines of PROENZA SCHOULER FOREVER.
and I mean why not? my blog is basically a shrine to Jack and Lazaro right?

Starting the year off right, taking vibrant color blocking cues from my favorite s/s 11 collection; Jil Sander. Katie Shillingford for Dazed and Confused's January issue. I love that paper bag skirt so much.

In similar news, Drew Barrymore wore an altered version of the tangerine column dress from the Jil Sander s/s11 show to a Covergirl event.

Definitely my favorite red carpet moment (cue:Rachel Zoe) in a while. Celebrities are always so predictable with their red carpet choices, and so, it is so refreshing to see someone take such a daring risk.

I also loved that the amazing color palette from the menswear line continued in into the womens RTW line too.

These have been at the top of my wishlist for who knows how long now. Fall 2009 is one of my favorite collections from Rei; the blanket coats, the trompe l'oeil, the cotton candy hair, the plaid, the beige organza/tulle. I would wear everything in a heartbeat. Just so so so coool.

Just discovered Sansovino 6's Fall/Winter 2010 collection. The line started when Edward Buchanan felt a certain void and therefore decided to launch his own line, looking to his friends; asking them what they were missing from their closets. The result, Italian brand Sansovino 6, based out of milan. The F/W collection focuses on luxe separates through knitwear. Utilizing exaggerated proportions and prints. I love the styling; so effortless but yet so put together and interesting. I also love how the pieces are so easily unisex, without losing any form of gender identity. Which is the case with most unisex brands; unisex doesn't have to mean void of gender, which is so much easier. The real challenge is making things that women can wear while retaining their femininity AND at the same time a man could wear the exact same piece without sacrificing his manliness. I think the photos above showcase the versatility really well. If you want your own piece of Sansovino 6, good luck, there are only 8 stockists in the world who carry it.

In other news, classes just ended (yay!) but that means exams are starting and so I probably wont be posting at all. Gotta hit the books!

Here are two of the sunglasses that recently came into my life;

The Lanvin x HM sunglasses.

Thank god I didn't have to wait in line for these babies. I first discovered these classic Lanvin sunglasses through Sonny Groo (Editor in Chief of MYKROMAG, and ever since i've been lusting for a pair to make into prescription ones for myself. Unfortunately, they're sold out everywhere and impossible to get. Fortunately, the HM collab brought them back into my life, though I wont be turning these into prescription pairs. Anyways in my opinion these are basically the best piece of the whole collab and only 30$.

Vintage Inspired Circular Frames

These are just a cheap pair of 50's inspired sunglasses I got from EBAY thanks to PULLTEETH. I love the shape because it reminds me of the Linda Farrow ones except these are a fraction of the price, which is perfect for me since I can only wear sunglasses to the beach anyways(the only place where I can handle not having clear vision). It's just too much of a hassle to put on contacts every time I want to wear sunglasses. If I go somewhere sure it'll look cool for like an hour, but then at one point i'll have to take my sunglasses off and then look like a crazy person sans-glasses. (slash i'll feel naked). So no thank you.

p.s. how appropriate right? a sunglasses post, when there's ice covering everything outside, it's freezing, I wear 3 layer minimum a day... Just another reminder that i'm not going anywhere tropical this winter.

Obsessed with this new brand SHIN's paint speckled F/W2010 collection. The long sleeve shirts are currently on sale for 118$ at their online store. Their pieces are really progressive and interesting. With the majority of the pieces in black. The cool thing is that, the paint speckles gradually fade off as the wearer, well, wears it. They're also priced at really reasonable price point too! (90$ for a basic top - 391$ for a perfectly draped jacket) If anyone was wondering what to buy me for Christmas, those pants and top would be AH-MAZING.

MARIE SAINT PIERRE

On Monday, I went to the Marie Saint Pierre Spring/Summer 2011 presentation, which was located at her actual office. This was a nice change though completely randomly located and was SUPER hard to get to. Maybe that's just because i am inept at public transportation, but regardless. So after I checked in, I was greeted with a large crowd of fabulous people 'socializing'. The room was small and tight, photographers everywhere, people everywhere. As I made my way to the wall where pictures of the Spring/Summer collection were taped, I wondered where all the other pieces where. There were literally only about 10 on display. I was really disappointed about this because Marie Saint Pierre is always my favorite at Montreal Fashion week and i was just sad that i wasn't able to see more of the collection live. Another aspect that bothered me was that the clothes were just displayed on hangers and not models. If you remember from last season, or are familiar with Marie Saint Pierre's work then you know Marie Saint Pierre is known for her interesting and innovative shapes and without a model to fill out the dress, all those design details are lost. Regardless of these things, the new collection seems really interesting (from the pictures); I didn't like the looks that combined the felt petals with the sheer fabric. I thought the felt was a little too heavy and the sheer to whimsical and it didn't mesh together well. The collections featured lots of petal work, red, white, beige, black color scheme, lots of jersey obviously, elaborate shoulder pieces, and drop waists.

I fell in love with this white dress; so intricate and elaborate.
Beautifully cut, streamlined, refined, glamorous.
Just perfectly done. Not too fussy.

As I was leaving, one of the PR girls offered me (and everyone else :P) a tour of the manufacturing side of the office! I was so excited! First we were brought to the sewing room where they make EVERYTHING; people were actually working as we visited them! Afterwards we were brought to the cutting room were all these bolts of fabric were = heaven.

I didnt want to wait in line to interview her, so i just caught snippets from other interviews;

"Toning it down, Keeping it simple. It almost becomes harder to do"

Overall, I really appreciated the tour of the manufacturing section, it was so cool to see the more intimate side of the whole Marie Saint Pierre brand and one that not many people get to see. I also got to see the Fall/Winter stuff because it was just laid out in on racks to be fondled and boy did I. I loved this collection so much. S conceptual, yet still so wearable. It was awesome being able to see that white coat up close. Though the S/S11 collection/presentation weren't my cup of tea, I am still an avid fan of Marie Saint Pierre and I hope next season she goes back to the typical runway or adopts a model inclusive presentation style.

OH and i spotted this gem, while everyone just walked by it like it was nothing:

EVE GRAVEL

Eve Gravel showed off site as well this season, in the middle of a cute little restaurant(that was still operating as the fashion show went on). Where to start, There were only 5 models, and they would come out with their respective looks, each walk, then go back and change. What did we do while they changed? waited. This was so unorganized and such a waste of time. In all there were 15 looks( ->2 waiting periods for the models to change). Overall, it was very cute. A lot better than last season, which i felt was so uninspired. My problem with Eve Gravel is that her stuff always comes off too simple, things anyone could find from a quick visit to Urban, H&M or Topshop. Nothing too unique or special which would merit a full on runway show. My proof? I actually OWN this exact same top from Urban but in black. Make of this what you will. Thankfully, this season it improved; There were still some looks that were uninspiring/fast fashion reminicient but i definitely see growth. There were 3 different "genres"; bright and graphic, sailor and military. Though a pure gimmick, I really thought it elevated her show. The clothes had a direction and I could really see girls everywhere wanting to wear her clothes because in the end, she makes cute clothes girls want to wear. Is it innovative, or inspiring? no, but it sells (and this is Montreal after all).

Now time for a little personal update; On Monday, I had planned to wear this awesome bubble coat but when i woke up it was super bright and sunny and so it squashed my plans. I ended up wearing some normal outfit. So no pictures of that. Obviously with my luck, it ended up being raining that day which would have been perfect for my coat. I hate this apocalypse weather. In other news, I didn't go to any shows today nor will i be going to any tomorrow. There's nothing that really interests me/i feel like covering and so i'm not going to do the rookie mistake of going to every single show. Thursday is going to be soo so so good though. I am so excited. Ying Gao, the genius behind this:

will be giving a conference and then my second most anticipated show; Ezra Constantine! Honestly I have never been so excited for a Montreal Fashion week show.

Fashion Week Prep

Fashion week starts tomorrow, and so tonight I pulled a whole bunch of possible looks to wear.
Somehow it became a bunch of beige, white, black and green pieces. I'll try to take shots of my outfit each day, i promise!

I've been really excited about this trench DIY.
I've always lusted over the Junya Watanabe/Comme des Garcons blacket coats but those are obviously unattainable and so I thrifted a trench and finally decided to make my own version.

Started out like this: (excuse my lame dancing)

and voila! As i was pinning it, i love how dramatic and crazy it looked with the brown plaid being so long(left), but it just wasn't practical and so I cut it. Now it's at the length of the picture on the right. Words cannot describe my excitement to wear it!! Now if only I had cotton candy hair or those toe shoes to match...

Loved the whole collection. As I was watching the livestream, I literally gasped as each look came out.
Perfectly on trend for spring (light, white, bright colors). Loved the statement dresses the most; with the attached flowing scarf/train. The color blocking and bandeau's were also so perfect done; it was just all so drool worthy. Definitely one to watch.

RODARTE

The Mulleavy sisters NEVER and I mean NEVER disappoint. This collection is such a random mismatch of amazingness
and yet it works so well because of the signature RODARTE stamp. Wood Panels/Prints? China? Return of the car-wash skirt? Golden tones?
Perfect. I just kept on thinking wood nymph. Too much to handle, all I want to do is stare.

balenciaga-ish, excellent snake print details, super sexy, cone boobs, electric-colored details, the white fabric has a bit too much sheen, amazing rope belts and bracelets, lust worthy snakeskin jacket, dangerously low cut, interesting hemlines, navy not black, futuristic, amazing jersey/snakeskin finale dresses. Gowns are really Altuzarra's strong point.

Altuzarra's show was spectacular, you can really see Alexander Wang's influence on him in this collection
(the attention to the back, the slicked back hair, the tailoring, some of the shapes). Fun Fact: Did you know Alexander Wang and Joseph
Altuzarra are designer bff's? They always have their show on the same day, usually only a mere hours apart (today 3hrs) and they always make sure to be at each others show!

ALEXANDER WANG SPRING 2011 : Ethereal monochromatic white looks,
light, draped, rusty nudes, dusty rose, mint(!!!), bronze + silver appliques, amazing jackets, knits, shoes, actually cool fanny pack, overall-cross detailed backs. looooveeeee. The first look, a pair of layered white overalls were so delicately made and detailed you couldn't even tell they were overalls. Sky high pumps with chunky square heels, some possibly Timbaland inspired. Loving the Tone-on-tone styling.

Wasn't a big fan of the shiny white fabrics, the weird flower prints, the nightgown-y dresses, or the hair and makeup (like last season)

The essence was just pure spring, possibly reincarnation themed; pure, fresh, neutral, clean. We can definitely see his vision progressing.
A lot more futuristic than what he usually does but still his singular vision.
To say that this was an awesome collection, well that would be putting it mildly.

CHRISTOPHER KANE : MEN'S CAPSULE COLLECTION

"I decided to launch menswear so I could wear my own designs, my friends were
forever asking me to do t-shirts off the back of the womenswear show themes, so my first shot at it was with the monkey tees;they were so popular I decided to keep it going. So each season we sell men's tees alongside the mainline collection.
I find it difficult to find staples that I love, so I guess I am launching this so I can have a decent wardrobe!   The inspirations differ every time, but usually taking the lead from the womenswear."

I can't fully express how excited I am for this. To me, Christopher Kane is the epitome of obviousness. Many people always say how obvious his collections are; like put some crazy gorilla print all over some tee shirt and voila! Though yes it is simple and obvious, no one has done it or at least the way he has. Classic shapes but with amazing prints. Menswear was an obvious next step and i'm surprise it took him so long. There have been many male fans who have worn his tees from the womenswear collections, for example my favorite Andrew Mukamal wearing the gorilla print tee that first drew me in to the Kane world.

My favorite pieces are the printed cardigans,and the leather shorts(that don't look uncomfortably hot).
I cant wait to see the rest!

So I totally forgot to do my Paris menswear round up,
so i decided to wait a bit longer so that it'd be like a fun reminder for all of you!
I narrowed it down to my three favorite collections, in this order:

BORIS BIDJAN SABERI

I LOVE LOVE LOVED this collection; So aesthetically strong, and powerfully styled, yet if you decipher each piece individually, you get interesting and wearable pieces. The collection as a whole has elements that push the boundaries of mens fashion like the man-skirt, the head pieces/head wraps, but in a wearable/not so in your face manner, which i really appreciate. The styling was also spot-on; perfect mix of tones on tones which added a decadent richness and pull together aspect for the clothes. My favorite piece has got to be that loose knit sweater; classic but interesting.

JUUN.J

I also loved this collection when I saw it! One of the best in my opinion. I loved the "perfect for a stroll through the desert" feel of the whole collection. If ever i went to Dubai or something along the same lines, this would be my collection of choice. Perfect trench/jackets, padded harem pants, romper coat, even the head-wrap visor sort of works (am i delusional?). The only thing i'm not too fond of is the weird sandal/flipflop hybrid? no thanks

ALEXIS MABILLE

I loved Alexis Mabille's collection because it was so different from everything we've been seeing all week. We can see how Alexis started out in womenswear and how he brought those elements into menswear; which for me is so much fresher than the menswear trend for the ladies. Mabille puts his boys in ROMPERS, that i died for. Even the black sparkly one, though ridiculous was perfect! The slouchy fit really brings it back to menswear. Another aspect of the collection i really liked was the color pallette; perfect complimentary neutrals that felt so fresh(the daisies helped too) amidst the sea of black/greys. Finally, Mabille's choice of wrap around sandals, was perfect! An ode to his womenswear background and yet they were made to look so manly. I loved it most paired with the cargo style pants.

WARPED TOUR // MONTREAL

So this Saturday(July 10th), I went to the Vans Warped Tour (lulz).
Luckily I got a press pass, so i was able to take really nice pictures up close! The mood was, as usual, super hyped and m3tal. Interestingly, this year there were a lot more "screamo" bands, and so out of the whole lineup I knew a total of like 4 bands playing, which was a major part of why i felt SUPER old and out of place. Everyone was 14 with their black hair and blond streaks, cat eye makeup and neon clothes. hey, no judgment here. Lord knows that was me a few(two) years back. [ HELLO ADORENICK // MYSPACE NAMES ] Overall I had an amazing time hanging out with Samia, Steph & Joanna, Annie and Jullyane. We all felt so 'old' even though we've been to every single one for like 4 consecutive years. Click through to see my pictures and some stories!

WARNING PICTURE HEAVY POST

So first, Samia and I stopped by Suicide Silence's set to take some test shots. They were way too hardcore for me; hair flips, head banging and all. Not/Surprisingly, Samia actually knew who they were. I found video evidence of the whole event

check around 1:10 for my arrival. You can tell how i don't fit in; a whole lot of screamin' goin' on. m3tal. OH and while enjoying the set, we spotted this fellow with red extensions in his dreads, and the "coolest" ghetup i'd seen all day. I can't decide if it's neo-grunge or just plain crazy.

After we went to go see this band where supposedly one of the guys in the band went to Annie's friend's high school. Turns out they were Anarbor, who werent that bad and i got really great pictures too! love the hair!

Then we checked out The Rocket Summer' set, which was in short amazing. Just filled with nostalgia. When he played this:

It was just a rush of good oogly feelings! Like rainbows and unicorns! uhm mabye not exactly, but you get what i mean. It was just a great set and it was awesome singing along with the crown behind us who knew all the lyrics. The only fail moment was when Bryce tried to do a crowd dive but failed miserably; it was just so awkward and lasted like 5 seconds too long + he didn't move anywhere = fail. soo brutal.

After I had to leave to go to work for a bit, so I missed my interview with Jac Vanek, and didnt get a change to buy a bracelet. I've always wanted that "stay gold" one. Totally regret not buying it + im also bummed i missed out on the only "fashion-y" part of warped. -_- Anyways after i got back, I was supposed to interview the Pretty Reckless(taylor momsen's band) but they cancelled last minute, so i rushed over to the All American Rejects set. Tyson was wearing this too-good-for-words white suit, basketweave shoes, and topman tie. It was such a nice change to see his outfit admist the dirty grungy looks from every other band. Their set was also super crazy amazing. Steph, Jullyane and I were singing along while Samia gave us disapproving looks. *guity pleasure*

Taylor Momsen

Then I went to go see the Sum 41 set by myself because everyone was off doing something else. The photopit was freaking CRAZY crowded and people were just going crazy. MOSHPIT EVERYWHERE. i got there late so I was at the left edge, when all of a sudden derek comes near me:

I knew he was going to throw the water but i thought it would just go past me since i was directly under him, but turns out he doesn't aim well and well, the water landed all on me, and my poor camera. at least the pictures look cool right? Anyways, the rest of the set was alright, I just felt as though they was too old, and hazbeen-y. I just think they represent like a huge part of everyone(who was there)'s childhood, and so it doesn't really matter how crazy his hair looked or how old they were, it was just a good moshpitting, crowd surfin good time.

Samia and I wanted to streetstyle at warped but that was kind of a fail,
unless you like 14 year old myspace queens, then we would of hit the jackpot.
Regardless, here are samia and annie's warped outfits. cuties!

That's it for my WARPED TOUR '10 post, hope you feel more m3tal now. If you feel the need to now listen to some "BRING ME THE HORIZON" and paint your nails black then i have suceeded, but probably not since i only posted about the least metal bands ever.

So last weekend I went to the MAD MAUS, a party here in Montreal that's all about over the top-ness, aesthetic decadence, craziness. I don't usually go, but this time the MISHAPES were hosting and so I had to! So i wore this cropped nautical blazer(unfortunately my only purchase from Toronto), black dress shirt from zara, thrifted shreddy tank, and the vest with the long train, which i made. I was inspired by the backpacks from Alexander Wang's fall 2010. I freaking love it, but I can't really wear it anywhere else cause it's such a "look". I love how light and sheer it is and i'm pretty sure it was on sale for 6$/meter at fabricville!

Here are my favorite menswear collections from Milan Menswear fashion week:

JIL SANDER

I LOVELOVELOVE the colorblocking here. I definitely think color blocking (+ double breasted blazers) is going to be huge for spring 2011; big bold colors or monochrome looks. My favorite looks are the last two, because i just think they encapsulate the whole collection. The colors are just crazy and so bold but it totally works. Just super clean crisp and bold for spring. Perfect!

ALBINO DEUXIEME

I've actually never heard of Albino Deuxieme before this season, but I'm glad i found them! This collection is just great! So simple but yet effective. I love the muted tones and the soft yet elaborate prints. I'm getting a sort of neo-tribal vibe from this collection. AND CAN WE SPEAK ABOUT THE SHOES? omg i never though i'd say socks and sandals could look good, but i'm going to have to reconsider. The sandals are so futuristic and minimal but the socks bring them back down a notch. LOVE THEM! they totally make the looks.

BURBERRY

Where do i start with Burberry? At first glance I didn't like it, the hair was just throwing me off (Too greasy/wet looking) This definitely wasn't my favorite collection this season but there were some pieces that i loved; the brown jacket with the round studs is so good! I mean, it's a little less unexpected than the silver spike studded moto jacket everyone's been gushing over. I also loved the brown trench that looks like it was made from a brown paper bag; so margiela!

GIULIANO FUJIWARA

I LOVE THIS COLLECTION; the reinvented futuristic camo print? so good. The conceptual cutouts on the crop tops are my favorites too

MARNI

MARNI was so freaking good this season. Just a relaxed collection that wreaked of cool. Something that designers really have a hard time with is creating a wearable laid back collection without it being boring. Marni totally hit it out of the park. I love the color blocking, the tribal print shorts, and the color combinations.

NEIL BARRETT

Neil Barrett was one of my favorites! I loved the duck tape like stripes, the sheer looks, the slight military inspiration(!!!). THE PADS! and the strips on the pants are just screaming DIY! I really love the pants with the strips, they look like pleather strips which I think is going to be really hard to not have it turn out all costumey, but hey, I think they're worth a shot! I've also been looking for a nice structured cropped vest like the one in the second look in the bottom row, which i feel like i could find in the "boys" section somewhere :P i think it'd be perfect for layering.

Z ZEGNA

I didn't like the collection as a whole, it was sorta blah, but i did fall head over heels for these spicy coral looks. They are just too good. There's something about spicy coral that always gets to me and pairing that with the slate pieces is just bananas perfection. I WANT THAT DOUBLE BREASTED JACKET SO FREAKING BAD!

So a super long time ago, (ages really) I got the chance to go see the Fall collections from Acne, Nudie Jeans and Filippa K thanks to Samia. I had initially written this post but never gotten around to publishing it because I wanted to wait till my big reveal of my new domain to post it, and then I accidentally just forgot about it, but here it is now: (sorry emily!)

This is without a doubt the coolest thing having a blog has allowed me to do. The fashion scene in Montreal isn't very strong, and whatever there is in Montreal, really only stays in Montreal. That's why I was super excited for this because Nudie, Filippa K and Acne are all widely recognized brands around the world and it was just exciting to go to my very first presentation.

NUDIE JEANS

So Steph and I started out at the Nudie Booth, the lovely Emily, Nudie jean's representative, was super kind and walk us through the collection. She explained to us the exact nature of the brand, their philosophy and the art of raw denim. What I really retained and loved about Nudie Jeans, is that they're so laid back. The whole aesthetic is hip and totally relaxed. I loved that you could feel her genuine commitment to the brand and the fact that she knew everything and was super excited about the brand. It was really refreshing to see. Here are some of the tidbits i learned; the fit and colors of the jeans are actually inspired by the ones that the employees back in home office wear and each season they try to recreate the same look. I just love the whole concept of raw denim, I think it's super important for guys to have good jeans. Even though prices start at around 200+, a good pair will be worth it because it will last you a lot longer and you can tell when a pair of jeans is of good quality. The bonus to wearing raw denim is that the jeans form to your body and personal creases start to form over time. ACNE

Second was ACNE, initially I was super excited to see the atacombas, but sadly they werent/couldnt be brought in. But it was alright because the clothes were awesome. I loved this metallic jean with the panels, and the grey jersey/black cocktail dress with the extreme sweetheart neckline. The clothes were just really really cute.

FILIPPA K

and finally, we stopped by at Filippa K where we met the super swedish and adorable Emma, representative of Filippa K. She really was Filippa K; She encapsulated the whole brand and what it stands for; A no fuss approach but with some quirk. She walked us through the mens and womens collections but what I really loved was the menswear. There were a few different inspirations for this collection; but the author inspiration was my favorite. There were fun details like elbow patches on the sleeves of blazers, and corduroys. My favorite pieces were the blue dress shirt and the red knit sweater. The dress shirt, i liked because it was an interesting modern take on the "trendy" denim shirt and the red sweater was the perfect mix of cozy and frumpy. In person it was the most electric red. i'm totally lusting over it.

I just wanted to thank Want Agency for inviting me and extending this opportunity to me! It's really exciting and reassuring to see that legitimate fashion business is going on here in Montreal.

RESORT // THE ROW : STELLA MCCARTNEY : PROENZA

So because Resort is weirdly scheduled throughout a few weeks, here is the part two of my resort round up!

THE ROW

So Ashley's project has totally become a legitimate fashion line. The olsens have such a strong aesthetic and I love that we can really see it in THE ROW. Every piece is made as though it were for one of them. Normally when designers design for themselves it isn't a good idea, but it totally works here. I love the pilgrim aesthetic going on and as usual it's just an extension of their brand. They're truly marketing geniuses; Stark white, crisp lines, and their signature laid back aesthetic can always be found in each collection. Everything just feels expensive and there's this interesting restraint that i love.

STELLA MCCARTNEY

Stella, another "celebrity" line, that in spite all odds, has become legitimate. Stella has really been pulling out amazing collections these past few seasons. This one is simply amazing, and has the whole blogosphere going crazy. I love the flower/poppy print and the fact that all of the coats are super voluminous, reminiscent of tulip bulbs!

PROENZA SCHOULER

RESORT // LANVIN : CELINE : GIVENCHY

So this is my resort round up post; Resort is usually a weird buffer period but this season it turned into a full fledge season that featured extravagant runway shows, supposedly just because Anna wanted it. So here are my favourite looks from my three favourite collections this season, these were truly the most spectacular;

LANVIN

Alber always knows how to do parisian chic perfectly. I LOVE the bathing suit + bathing cap with flowers combo! (a whole lot better than this)+ how could you not love the reversible dress? it actually looks super chic! the thing i loved most about this collection was the theatricality of it all, resort is a fun season and it's perfect for designers to lighten up, especially when you have 8 collections a year to do!

CELINE

I just want to start this out by saying how much I LOVE PHEOBE PHILO. Her aesthetic is just so refreshing and i'm so glad she's back. She's truly revived Celine, slowly turning it into a major powerhouse. I loved the color-blocking here and obviously the coats. I'm really developing a huge obsession for good structured coats :/ But obviously my favorite look was the flowy black one. I MEAN AMAZING.

GIVENCHY

and finally, the BEST COLLECTION EVER. seriously this is my dream collection. i mean, it has everything I LOVE: lace, transparency, LEOPARD print(done well), gold, monochrome, and obviously it's GIVENCHY. Ricardo Tisci totally reeled me back in, the latest couture collection was a bit of a mess for me, but i'm totally back on board with this collection. Just too good for words. It has the signature Givenchy aesthetic that Tisci has develloped for the brand recently and some menswear influence. Like that gold spike necklace/choker like the thorn necklace from menswear i've been lusting over. Overall this collection is just flawless.

RESORT // RAG & BONE

Loving Rag & Bone's latest resort collection. Truly effortless and perfect colors for resort without looking too resort-y. I love the third look pictured. I actually just thrifted a cardi that has the same sort of fabric! Anyways, just thought id make a quick post, every other resort collecion was pretty blah for me. Nothing too special.
